Ottawa Independent Writers (OIW) is a vibrant, inclusive community where writers of all genres and experience levels come together to learn, grow, and connect. Whether you’re scribbling poems in the margins, halfway through a novel, or dreaming about your first short story, you’ll find a place here.

We support one another by organizing engaging events throughout the year — from guest speaker talks, workshops, and reading nights to writing retreats, local meet-ups, and collaborations across Ottawa’s literary community.

Our mandate is simple: to assist writers at every stage of their creative journey. We share work, exchange ideas, celebrate successes, and navigate challenges together — all while keeping the joy of writing at the heart of what we do.

Membership is just $75/year (or $50 for students and seniors) and opens the door to a world of inspiration, encouragement, and craft.
