In the grand tradition of OIW, we want to invite you to our annual writing retreat.
This 2017 Annual Spring Writers Retreat & Workshop takes place at the amazing Cove Inn, in Westport.
The Cove Inn has two adjoining waterside locations for accommodations, both of which were built in the late 19th Century. They are the Fredenburgh House overlooking the Upper Rideau Lake and the Main Inn overlooking the Westport Pond.
The weekend starts:
Friday May 26th at 4 pm until Sunday May 28th at 4 pm.
2 ½ days of writing and relaxation to rejuvenate the senses and bring your prose to life.
This year we are proud to have Alissa York, award-winning author of The Naturalist, Fauna and Effigy as your facilitator!

Accommodation includes dinner on Friday, 3 meals on Saturday, breakfast and lunch on Sunday.
Very important! Please note: The arrangements are different this year. Participants will be responsible for booking their own accommodation. When booking, please inform the clerk you are with the Ottawa Independent Writer’s group. The group rates are only available until March 15th and rooms are limited.

This is a small hotel, fully licensed and OIW is pretty much taking the place over for the weekend. Book your room now or as soon as possible. A credit card will secure your place and you pay when you leave.
Cancellations must be made by one week prior May 19th.
Room costs for the full stay:
Single occupancy (one person in the room) for two nights is a total of $250 + tax. This rate includes two nights of accommodation, six meals (two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners).
Double occupancy for two nights with six meals is $190 + tax per person (two nights of accommodation for two people in the room either in one bed for a couple or two beds for participants who wish to share a room)
Workshop fee: $190 per person for OIW members and for non-OIW members who register before March 28, 2017. Non-OIW members who register before this date can pay by click the OIW pay button below.
On March 29, 2017 the rate for non-OIW members will go up to $240 per person.

Sunday until about 2 pm will be workshop and then head home, for an ending time of 4 pm.
The OIW Retreat facilitator, Alissa York, is the 1999 winner of the Bronwen Wallace Memorial Award. She is best known for her 2007 Random House Canada novel Effigy, which was nominated in 2007 for one of Canada's most important prizes for literature and fiction, the Scotiabank Giller Prize. Her latest and much acclaimed novel, The Naturalist (Random House 2016) takes place in the late 1860s when Darwin was transforming paradigmatic views of creation with his theory of natural selection and biological evolution. The novel centres on the conflict between civilization and nature.
